I’ve recently relocated to Plymouth to join Bluestone360 for a summer placement. This is a very exciting opportunity for me to gain experience at one of South West’s top creative agencies after winning a design competition launched as part of the Bluestone360 Academy. The Academy was formed to give talented graduates real industry experience. As the chosen candidate I will be bringing to life the design entry I submitted for the CHICKS (Country Holiday for Inner City Kids) charity website. CHICKS is a national children’s charity that provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children across the UK. These breaks take place in one of their countryside retreats in Devon or Cornwall and give the children a chance to enjoy their childhood.
Having received a very warm welcome on my first day at Bluestone360 I look forward to the challenges creating CHICKS’ new website will involve. A convenient bonus of my time here is that the office in Royal William Yard is right by the waterfront and is an absolutely gorgeous location to be based.

Another recent development is that I’ve joined Twitter. Feel free to follow my process as I journey through my latest adventure!

I have recently finished a placement at The Ultimate Holding Company in Manchester. UHC is an unique art and design co-operative who aims to contribute towards positive and social change through good graphic design as well as publicly engaging projects. Amongst many things, the placement allowed me to make small contributions towards the Keith Taylor MEP website as well as witness the frenzy of activity behind the EXAM Project, which was part of the Queer Up North Festival.
A big thank you to Sara, Jack and the rest of the team at UHC for looking after me during my time there!

Last month while in the Northern Quarter of Manchester I picked up a flyer about the Advice From Them project. This project aims to create a collection of good advice that people have been given, would like to give or wish they’d been given.
For my submission, I chose to illustrate: ‘Don’t put all your eggs in one basket’, a piece of advice I’m sure many of us have been given.

Can you spot all the eggs?
The Advice From Them project is still in its early stage and you can take part by sending artwork to:

Steve Rack of ilikecharacters.com is calling for submissions for his Toe Fluff project, which will be turned into an exhibition later this summer with all profits of the event going to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
Here’s what I submitted:
Toe Fluff turns into Cookie Fluff when you leave biscuit crumbs on the floor!

I’ve always wondered how my illustrations would look when professionally printed. When I realised that MOO did a sample pack of 10 business cards (for free) I decided it was time to find out! The MOO samples allow you to place your own images on the front and back. It is possible to choose up to ten different images for the front, while the back is limited to one design.
I decided to take advantage of this and chose ten different images.

I’m rather pleased with the results. My photos don’t do them justice! In the above, I opted to pay the small fee that removed the ‘MOO watermark’, which was definitely worth it. With Christmas coming up I may well use these as gift tags.
The business card samples are available from MOO’s European and USA store.
