During my end of summer trip to Anglesey I was given the unexpected opportunity to don a bee suit and help out a local bee keeper doing his hive inspection. Pete has been looking after bees for many years – certainly way before bee keeping became trendy. The plight of bees and the need to grow wild flowers to support other pollinators has received quite a bit of coverage in the press. Walking is a really enjoyable activity that gives me a break from staring at the computer and helps me think. It’s also a good way of getting regular exercise. Last winter, I heard Kathryn Lwin, Founder Director of the River of Flowers, speak at one of Manchester Art Gallery’s Thursday Late sessions. Her talk was incredibly inspiring and she shared a vision where patches of wildflowers throughout our city would create ‘rivers’ for our pollinators to travel through. At the end of her talk she gifted the audience with a tin from Seedball.
